The Várkapitány Winery is an artisan winery. Their wines are fermented and mellowed in barrels for at least one year. Their wines are full-bodied, fiery and are characterised by mineral aromas and flavours resembling ‘gunflint’ due to the volcanic soil of Mt. Somló. Besides traditional Somló varieties, including Juhfark, Furmint, Hárslevelű and Olaszrizling (Welschriesling), the winery grows more ‘international’ ones as well, including Tramini and Sárgamuskotály (Muscat Lunel).
