The Kinizsi Castle
The tower-like castle of this tiny settlement, whose eponymous and famous captain we all know, and not only from our history studies, gently invites visitors. Pál Kinizsi is a legendary character of tales and legends about King Matthias. It is worth visiting Nagyvázsony, if not for any other reason than for the memory of this great person – fly back in time and enjoy the medieval atmosphere with the excitement of the age of the knights! The experience will be even more complete if you take part in one of the Renaissance tournaments organised on a daily basis in summer.
After you have had your share of the thrills of combat, Renaissance music, scenes and joys, take a walk inside the Kinizsi Castle. The castle’s old square tower is one of Transdanubia’s few late Gothic tower houses preserved in a sound condition. The exhibition in the tower will take you through the various levels of the four-storey building, presenting the different scenes of medieval life – you can see a prison exhibition, the room of the guards, a knights’ hall and the rooms of the ladies. In addition, you can take a look at the archaeological findings dug up during the excavation of the castle as well as scale models of the castle and the Pauline monastery located nearby. Last but not least, the tombstone of Pál Kinizsi is another attraction in the chapel.
This interactive programme providing unforgettable experiences and a special atmosphere both for adults and children is organised in the Kinizsi Castle in Nagyvázsony every summer, from July 1 to August 20, between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.. Anybody can take part in the Renaissance tournaments which offer theatrical performances of the age, fights, Renaissance songs and a lot more!
